Performance tyres for sharper handling

Performance tyres were first designed for racetracks. As sports cars and high-performance vehicles became more popular, they were built for the road with inspiration from the track. Fitted to your car, you will notice better handling and traction.

What performance tyres give you

High performance (H/P) and ultra-high performance (UHP) tyres are popular with owners of sports cars and other high-performance vehicles. They have uniquely designed tread patterns, special rubber compounds and rigid sidewalls.

Shorter braking distance
Wider surfaces and premium rubber compounds help the vehicle stop quickly with less sharp braking, which improves road safety.
Handling and performance
The rubber is much softer than on a standard tyre, which gives a smooth drive at higher speeds. Rigid sidewalls add traction and grip so the car holds tight corners.
Precise steering
More grip improves steering accuracy, so the car reacts quicker. That matters especially on newer cars with ABS and sensitive steering and suspension.
Better heat dispersion
Overheating is a major cause of tyre failure, especially as tread wears. Premium compounds resist heat build-up, so tyres last longer.

Do you need performance tyres?

Not every vehicle or driver suits them. Think about three things before you buy:

Cost
High performance tyres cost more than a standard car tyre. If you want an enhanced driving experience, it may be worth the investment.
Season
They suit dry summer roads best, and performance can drop in colder months. Most premium manufacturers now make winter and all season versions, so match your tyres to the season.
Fuel efficiency and wear
The softer compounds can wear quicker than a standard economical tyre. It is the trade-off for the extra grip.
